Blankets

Blanket Requirements:

Project Linus donates blankets to children, infants through teens. Many sizes are appropriate depending on chapter need. For example, blankets could be as small as 36" X 36." The majority of Project Linus blankets are about 40" X 60", or what is called “crib size.” Blankets could be as large as twin size for teens.

  • New, Handmade, Washable (do not use wool) / Dryable.
  • Suitable Materials: 100% cotton fabric, flannel, polar fleece, or acrylic yarn.
  • Made in infant, child or teen friendly colors.

Remember that these blankets should be colorful, cheerful, and cuddly.

  • Recommended SIZES (measurements are approximate)
    • 36" x 36" or 36" x 42" or 40" x 60" or 45" x 60" or 45" x 60" or 45" x 72
    • Teen-sized blankets - should be at least 2 yards in length and since polar fleece is 50" wide, a 2-yard piece of fleece makes a nice blanket for a teenager. Remember that a big blanket will fit all sizes of kids, a small blanket will fit only the little kids.
  • Blankets of any size will be accepted, because kids come in all different sizes!

Please Note: We would prefer you use PERMANENT markers instead of crayons when making muslin squares for blankets. We are hearing that the crayon pictures are not lasting as long. This is why at this time we are requesting you use PERMANENT MARKERS

Blanket Checklist

Is Your Blanket Ready to be Turned In?

  • No pins left in blankets. Please double check.
  • No thread tails or runs of thread between stitching lines.
  • Cut off that extra sewing thread so it doesn't get wrapped around a toe or finger.
  • All seams securely stitched.
  • If quilt is bound, the binding catches all edges and covers all raw edges and quilt batting.
  • Tied blankets - tied with bedspread weight crochet thread or embroidery floss.
  • Yarn blankets - do not tie a knot and cut the yarn next to the knot. This will come untied. Instead, leave 4 to 8 inch yarn ends and use a arn needle to weave the yarn ends into the stitches to secure the yarn.
  • All blanket materials are new, machine washable and machine dryable.
  • No pet hair, cigarette smoke or other contaminants in or on the blankets.
  • Include your name and contact info with your blankets if they are dropped off.
